Rhoads|For an amateur, as I am, this book served as a very current, detailed review of Olmec archaeology in all its ramifications and controversies. The author tries not to take sides, and seems to provide detailed references for almost every statement he makes. I have seldom read a book on any subject|About the Author|Christopher A. Pool is associate professor of anthropology at the University of Kentucky. He has conducted archaeological fieldwork in southern Veracruz state, Mexico and in the eastern United States.
