Mr. Blackbird's history, written in 1887, provides a detailed, astonishing, and sometimes tragic, account of the Ottawa and Chippewa peoples of Michigan. The author understood the trappings of white society and participated in it, during times when additional white settlers were m|About the Author|The author, among other positions held, was an interpreter for the US government and was appointed postmaster of Harbor Springs, Michigan. Which was named at that time Little Traverse. He was the first Native American to hold that position.
